MI Best Practices

MI Best Practices

The Michigan Center for Adult College Success highlights and promotes MI best practices that improve outcomes for adult learners. Colleges, universities, and community partners across Michigan test new strategies to expand access, boost persistence, and raise completion. We collect these approaches and share them so others can learn and adapt what works.

MI best practices include program design innovations like stackable credentials and competency-based education. They also cover policies that expand credit for prior learning. In addition, they showcase student support models such as holistic advising, emergency aid, and financial counseling. Each practice has shown measurable results for students, institutions, or communities.

This collection serves as a resource, not just a showcase. Leaders can use these examples to guide grant applications, policy proposals, and strategic plans. Faculty and staff can apply them in classrooms and support services. Policymakers can see what works on the ground and make stronger statewide decisions.

MI best practices demonstrate the creativity and determination of Michigan’s higher education community. By sharing lessons and elevating effective models, we foster a culture of continuous improvement. These practices give adult learners better opportunities to enroll, persist, and complete postsecondary education. In turn, they strengthen the workforce and help build a more resilient future for our state.
